A great Outback tour. By day you travel through some of the harshest but most spectacular country in Australia; yet on some nights there is the welcoming hospitality of a bush pub to wash off the dust and quench that Outback thirst. This tour will show you sights and leave you with special memories of magnificent parts of Australia.

This tour will start in Alice Springs with everyone meeting at the beginning of the Tanami track, which is approximately 20kms north of ‘The Alice’ on the Stuart Highway to Darwin.

    DAY 1: TANAMI TRACK

Today’s journey will take us well into the Tanami desert, through mulga scrub and into open grassland, past Tilmouth Well Roadhouse and onto our bush camp.

    DAY 2: THE TANAMI TRACK

Continuing north-west along the Track and Tanami Desert, we pass the isolated roadhouse of Rabbit Flat, onto the WA border crossing and finally reach Sturt Creek, our second bush camp.

DAY 3: THE TANAMI TRACK CAMP - HALLS CREEK

From Sturt Creek we continue along the Track and detour to visit Wolf Creek meteorite crater. This meteor crashed into this area approximately 350,000 years ago and is the second largest meteorite crater in the world. Our arrival into historic Halls Creek will be mid afternoon. (Accommodation and meals available at the Kimberley Hotel if preferred).

DAY 4: HALLS CREEK - TOP SPRINGS

Following the Buntine Highway, we make our way to the roadhouse at Top Springs. This highway carries the name of one of the NT's pioneer cattle transport operators.

Day 5: TOP SPRINGS - BORROLOOLA

Borroloola is situated on the McArthur River which flows into the Gulf of Carpentaria. The population of approx 1500 and the town has a strong tourism trade with the emphasis on fishing.

    Day 6: BORROLOOLA DISCOVERY

Your chance today to relax and explore the local area. What about some “barra” fishing?

    Day 7: BORROLOOLA - CAMOOWEAL

Almost straddling the NT-QLD border, Camooweal is possibly one of those towns on a “must see” list. Depending on your direction of travel, Camooweal is almost on the start or finish of the Barkly Highway.

    Day 8: CAMOOWEAL - BOULIA

Heading south, past Urandangi, Tobermorey on the Donohue Highway, arriving Boulia late afternoon. This is the home of the mystical “min min light”. This eerie phenomenon has been baffling locals and travellers for years: many theories have been suggested to explain this mysterious light that appears on infrequent night sightings. Boulia is also renowned for the “Red Stump” - its answer to the Black Stump - which warns travellers of the dangers of the Simpson Desert. (Dinner, meals available at Australian Hotel-Motel if preferred.)

    Day 9: BOULIA - WINDORAH

Situated on the banks of the Thompson and Barcoo Rivers, Windorah has the reputation of a town on two rivers which then become a ‘creek’, the mighty Cooper Creek.

    Day 10: WINDORAH - THARGOMINDAH

“Thargo”, as it is affectionately called, sits quietly on the banks of the Bulloo River, in the “channel country”. In 1891 drilling commenced on an artesian bore that resulted in Thargo being the first town to have reticulated bore water, which was also used to produce electricity via the first hydro-electric scheme.

    Day 11: THARGOMINDAH

Attractions in Thargo include the hydro-electric plant, Leahy Historic House, the original Thargomindah Hospital, Cobb and Co. crossing and more.

Day 12: THARGO - CAMERON CORNER

In the late 1800s, the Government Surveyor John Cameron was commissioned to survey the NSW-QLD border. Where these two states join SA, this ‘corner’ bears his name today.

Day 13: CAMERON CORNER - TIBOOBURRA

A short trip along the dingo fence will then have us enter NSW, through Sturt National Park and into the 'corner' town of Tibooburra.

Day 14: TIBOOBURRA - BROKEN HILL

Via the old gold mining settlement of Milparinka and historic Depot Glen, then make our way south, finally reaching Broken Hill late afternoon. Tonight is end of tour dinner hosted by your Guide (drinks not included).
